A third year art student in the National College of Art and Design in Dublin, Amanda Vencatasamy, recently wrote to Tara looking for sponsorship for her art project. However, it wasn't money she was looking for, it was sugar! Once Tara heard about how different and interesting the piece sounded she was delighted to donate the sugar.

Amanda had been working on ideas of identity as she was born in London, but her parents are originally from Mauritius...and her ancestors would have been brought from India as slaves to work in sugar cane fields - hence the use of sugar! Therefore, for her art piece, she decided to cast her own head out of sugar, using different kinds of sugar as different layers - water was dripped over the face for three days, slowly dissolving the sugar, changing the shape of the piece. The artwork was displayed at the National College of Art and Design Exhibition in Dublin which was a huge success.

Amanda will be designing another sugar piece for the Royal Ulster Academy 08 Exhibition which Tara's will also be sponsoring. We wish Amanda every success with this and we look forward to the pictures!
